The Cleveland Indians are sending big smoke signals through social media.

The Cleveland Indians have been very proactive in using social media to grow their brand and connect multi-generational fans with each other. Besides getting involved on facebook and twitter, last year they reserved an invite only area in their seats called the Tribe Social Deck for Tweeters, and Bloggers etc. They just moved their Tribe Social Deck from down near left field into an entire Suite (The Indians Social Suite) dedicated entirely to their loyal bloggers and tweeters (Click here to apply for an invite). You can also see their press release video here. I’m impressed at how they are intentionally inviting both positive bloggers and negative bloggers to get the first class treatment. It goes to show that they care about people who want to share constructive content about the team. I believe it would benefit many other organizations to do the same.

For notable Twitter accounts from the Cleveland team, check out: they’ve released a really comprehensive list of the team’s active Twitter accounts, including Mark Shapiro (@MarkShapiro), Chris Antonetti (@IndiansGM), Manny Acta (@mactriber_11) and the Indians radio guys (@IndiansRadio).  Their PR department has long been active on Twitter (@tribetalk).  A handful of Indians players are also on Twitter, most notablyShelley Duncan (@shelldunc).
